“Red Sea”

Dead Christ with Angels (1866–1867) print in high resolution by Édouard Manet

He is a man of separation

He sorts himself

Mind over matter, over heart

An asymmetric face

He likens to being half-mortal

And half-divine

But when he stands at the sea

And demands it to part

That body does not move, will not move

He forgets that the body he commands

Is not a body of water

Rather, the body of a woman

Her symmetry

To his half

That should be holy
