“Things to Wish On”

Wild dandelions illustration from Seitei Kacho Gafu (1890–1891)

Things to Wish On:

  1. A rock that looks blessed

  2. A birthday candle (doesn’t have to be yours so long as you don't blow it out)

  3. A feather

  4. Your lucky pen (everyone has one)

  5. A napkin before you throw it away

  6. A penny

  7. The plant you water

  8. The nine of diamonds you found in a book

  9. The past

  10. The future

My life is spent searching for things to wish on. I don’t care what it is. Or even what it looks like. It’s about what it feels like. Some things grant you more than one wish. Most grant you none. I don’t know why.

A wish is an action. A wish is a thought. I’ll find something that grants my wish eventually. I’ll keep trying. But sometimes, I wonder if I need to change my definition of a wish.

I looked it up. It says a wish is wanting something that cannot or probably won’t happen.

That’s not my definition.
